Gillingham 0-0 Crewe Alexandra

Play-off chasing rivals Gillingham and Crewe Alexandra played out an entertaining scoreless draw at Priestfield Stadium.

The Gills went close early on when Timothee Dieng's powerful header was superbly tipped around a post by Crewe keeper Tom Booth.

The visitors responded midway through the first half when Elliott Nevitt met Aaron Rowe's cross, only to see his effort bravely blocked.

The Gills were on top in the run-up to the interval.

George Lapslie missed a terrific chance when he somehow fired off-target from close range following some smart work from Remeao Hutton.

Crewe began the second period brightly, with Rowe going close after meeting Josh Austerfield's cross.

Nevitt then fluffed a one-on-one chance as Gills stopper Glenn Morris saved well.

At the other end Booth saved superbly from Josh Andrews as, despite being held, the Gills' unbeaten run extended to three games.

Crewe remain six points ahead of their hosts, but they continue to stutter somewhat thanks to just one win in their last six matches.

Another home draw and 2 shots on target - it's our achilles heel this season.

Part of me want's to be in the play offs, but the other part knows we'll get mullered if we somehow got into League 1 with this squad.

At least we're not in the same situation as last year and we need to be thankful for that.

Granted we didn’t have many chances on target, but Gills were for once the better side for most of the match. A couple good saves denied us along with the ref who made some odd calls and was happy watching Hawkins being pulled about every time but never giving a foul. They played dirty with him for fun and got away with it. It took to around 75th minute when Andrews was also tugged finally a foul!

Last 9 at home 2 wins and seven draws is why Gills are not in automatic promotion. The standard of teams in League 2 is mediocre at best. A decent forward line next year and some additions -goal keeper , ball holding midfielder Gills should be a good shout for promotion next season. The minus 8 will hinder playoff hopes. UTG

No wonder they're late all the time with the atrocious amount of time wasting by Crewe today.
Awful.

I don't think going up this year would be the best thing in the long term. Maybe building the squad and style of play more and most importantly score some goals.

Like you, we are indeed a small club, maybe you should be seeing us off especially for how we’ve played most part of the season, but if we had decent strikers or could just simply score a decent amount of goals I’ve no doubt we would have been fighting for top 3, even if we didn’t deserve it, pretty much like the playoffs for now. Good luck in your quest, you/Barrow can do it for the smaller teams
