Granada CF vs Real Madrid CF predictions

Real Madrid have done it again. Not for the first time in recent years, the Blancos snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on Wednesday night, advancing to the Champions League final as a result.

Despite having the better chances on the night, Madrid fell behind to Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final clash. A stunning effort from Alphonso Davies silenced the majority in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu crowd and put Bayern 3-2 up on aggregate.

Madrid continued to create opportunities and they even had a goal chalked off for a foul by Nacho inside the penalty area. But time was running out and Bayern were minutes away from setting up an all-German final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

Yet even at a late stage of proceedings, it is unwise to write Madrid off. In the last couple of years alone, the Spanish giants have come from behind to eliminate Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City in big Champions League games at the Bernabeu.

Bayern were merely their latest victims. Joselu, a journeyman striker signed by Madrid as cover last summer, came off the bench to equalise in the 88th minute, taking full advantage when Manuel Neuer failed to hold Vinicius Junior’s shot.

The striker then won the tie in stoppage time, turning home Antonio Rudiger’s cross from close range. The linesman raised his flag to halt the celebrations, but a VAR review showed that Joselu was onside. The Bernabeu erupted.

“It happened again,” Carlo Ancelotti said after watching his side return from the dead once more. “A fantastic stadium, players that you can’t stop believing in. It’s something magical.”

Madrid’s players will still be on a high when they visit Granada on Sunday. Thankfully for Ancelotti, his team has already won the La Liga title, so Madrid can afford to place their full focus on Europe over the next few weeks.

Granada vs Real Madrid betting tips

Real Madrid have already won the league title but they will still be gunning for victory over Granada.

Real Madrid to win and both teams to score - 21/10 (BoyleSports)

Given their history and might both at home and abroad, it will surprise many to learn that Real Madrid have only won the La Liga title and the Champions League once since 1958.

That is the double they are targeting this season. Although La Liga is already wrapped up, Ancelotti will want to see his team get as many points as possible. They can still reach 99, which would be their second-highest tally ever.

Madrid will also want to carry some momentum into the Champions League final. They will be the favourites against Borussia Dortmund no matter what, but limping over the line in La Liga would give them less confidence than arriving at Wembley Stadium on the back of a six-game winning streak.

Madrid should get the job done against almost-relegated Granada, but it would not be a huge shock if they failed to keep a clean sheet given their upcoming opponents, who have scored in three of their last four games.

Real Madrid to score in both halves - 5/4 (bet365)

Granada have rallied of late, beating Alaves and Osasuna in their last two home games while holding Athletic Bilbao to a draw on the road in between.

It is a case of too little, too late, however. Up until the middle of April, they had won only two La Liga games this term.

They have now doubled their number of victories but no one is under any illusions as to Granada’s status: they will be a second-division club next season.

Only Almeria, who have somehow been significantly worse than Granada in 2023/24, have conceded more goals than Real Madrid’s next opponents.

Even if Ancelotti were to ring the changes as expected, the champions would have too much attacking quality for their hosts at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes.

Brahim Diaz to score any time - 3/1 (BetMGM)

Joselu’s brace in midweek means he will surely be rewarded with a start on Saturday, but he will not be the only player introduced to the starting XI.

Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga and Eder Militao will also hope for a chance to impress from the first whistle, while Brahim Diaz is in line to start either in a right-sided, left-sided or central attacking berth.

With the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius and Rodrygo ahead of him in the pecking order, it is no surprise that Diaz has begun many matches as a substitute this season.

But like Joselu, he has nonetheless been an important member of Ancelotti’s squad. A return of six goals and four assists is impressive in just 1395 La Liga minutes.

The former Manchester City man should get chances to breach Granada’s backline this weekend.
